Drug Name: LATANOPROST + TIMOLOL Legal Class: POM Drug Class: Prostaglandin analogues/beta-blockers How Supplied: Latanoprost/timolol (as maleate) Indications: Open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension insufficiently responsive to topical �-blockers or prostaglandin analogues. Adults: 1 drop into affected eye(s) once daily. Children: Not recommended.
General Warnings for Latanoprost + timolol Contraindications: Asthma or history of asthma, severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, sick-sinus syndrome, sino-atrial block, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, uncompensated cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock. Active herpetic keratitis. Pregnancy, lactation. Precautions: Diabetes, thyrotoxicosis, cardiovascular disease, 1st degree heart block, severe peripheral circulatory disorders, mild to moderate COPD. Inflammatory, neovascular, angle closure or congenital glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma, open angle glaucoma in pseudophakic patients. Risk factors for cystoid macular oedema. Aphakia, pseudophakia in patients with torn posterior lens capsule or anterior chamber lenses. History of herpetic keratitis. Monitor for keratopathy in patients with dry eyes or corneal disorders. Remove contact lenses; wait 15 min before reinserting. Interactions: Calcium-channel blockers, antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, antidiabetic agents, clonidine, cardiac glycosides, parasympathomimetics, adrenaline. CYP2D6 inhibitors (eg, quinidine, SSRIs). Additive effects with other glaucoma treatments. Side Effects: Darkening of mixed coloured irides; inform patient. Eye irritation, eye pain, systemic �-blocker effects. Reports of macular oedema, choroidal detachment, exacerbation of asthma, cardiac failure.
