SeeAbility and Mid-Optic join forces to make eye care accessible for all
About Mid Optic’s new partnership with SeeAbility
Our new charity partnership will see us working closely with SeeAbility to make eye care accessible for people with learning disabilities and autism.
Good eyesight enables people to learn, communicate and feel more confident. Yet there is a huge gap between the eye care needs of people with learning disabilities and autism and the support available.
There are over one million adults with learning disabilities in the UK and one in ten has a serious sight problem. Yet SeeAbility research suggests in the past two years as many as half have never had a sight test.
Even more shocking is SeeAbility research which shows four in ten pupils in special schools have never had a sight test, even though children with learning disabilities are 28 times more likely to have serious sight problems than other children.
SeeAbility is striving to close this gap, so that everyone has an equal right to sight. By joining forces, together we aim to increase awareness of the problem within the optical sector and encourage eye care professionals to use SeeAbility’s specialist information and support to make their practice more accessible.
