As Cassie continues to progress through the puppy raising stage, we’ve been in touch with her Puppy Raiser, Jane, one last time to find out how they’ve been getting on and what they’re doing to help prepare her for the next stage. Jane told us that Cassie has been making lovely progress with her training and that she’s mostly doing all that’s expected of a pup of her age.

Cassie’s lead work is now of a very high standard, and she is able to maintain the basic guiding position, which is in front and to the left of Jane, with light to moderate tension on the lead. This is a great skill for the pups to learn as it teaches them to be a secure and steady guide. Over the past few months Jane has been working on Cassie’s dog distraction when she’s walking on the lead and we’re pleased to report that she’s made good progress, and with a few words of encouragement will walk on by without having to say ‘hello’ to other dogs she meets.

Off the lead, Cassie’s recall to both voice and whistle is very good. She likes to greet other dogs and people in the park, but as soon as Jane blows the whistle, Cassie will come back to her as she knows that she will get a tasty treat as a reward!

Jane told us that Cassie copes well in places like town centres and is happy walking around people. When restrictions ease, Cassie will be able to experience busier town centres, and resume training on public transport.

Cassie is a very affectionate pup and loves it when Jane makes a fuss of her. Cassie also has a cheeky side and enjoys picking up Jane’s slippers and carrying them off into another room!

We hope you have enjoyed Cassie’s latest pupdate and following her through the puppy raising stage of her training. We will be in touch again soon to celebrate Cassie’s birthday with you and we’ll also let you know when she’s made the move to ‘big school’.
